Ruper and the small universe of a rabbit

Ruper is my rabbit. He was born on November 12, 2025, and since he arrived, he has quietly become part of my daily life.

Watching him move around a room is surprisingly fascinating. While humans tend to fill their minds with plans, problems, and future possibilities, Ruper seems entirely absorbed in the present moment. A small sound. A new smell. A corner of the room he hasn’t explored yet. For him, the world appears to be made of immediate discoveries.

A room full of discoveries

One thing I’ve noticed is how many things can become interesting for him. A cardboard box. A cable on the floor. A new object in the room. Things that seem completely ordinary to me suddenly become worth investigating.

He approaches slowly, stops, observes, and then carefully decides whether it is safe enough to explore. Sometimes curiosity wins. Sometimes he decides it’s better to keep a bit of distance. Watching this small process of exploration always makes me smile.

The personality of a rabbit

Some days he is calm and relaxed, spending most of his time lying down or quietly eating hay. Other days he becomes more adventurous, moving around the room, inspecting corners, or suddenly running short bursts of energy that rabbit owners like to call “zoomies”.

But what I find most amusing are his very clear opinions about certain things. For example, he really doesn’t like having his front paws touched. The first time, he tolerates it. The second time, he slowly turns his head and looks at you with an expression that clearly says: “Do you want problems?”. And by the third time, he shakes his head in clear disapproval and runs away as if the situation has become unacceptable.

It’s fascinating how expressive such a small animal can be. Over time you start recognizing these little signals and realizing that even a rabbit has his own boundaries, preferences, and moods.

Small moments

Living with a rabbit also means noticing small moments you might otherwise ignore. The quiet sound of chewing hay. The soft movement of paws on the floor. The way he suddenly stands still when something catches his attention. None of these moments are dramatic, but somehow they add a certain calm to the space.

A small universe

For Ruper, the universe is not made of galaxies, equations, or distant theories. It is made of the room he explores every day. The places he knows. The smells he recognizes. The small paths he walks again and again.

Watching him reminds me that even a very small universe can still be full of discovery.
